Ride the Divide: A Grueling Journey of Endurance Cycling and Natural Beauty

ride the divide
Ride the Divide is a compelling documentary that explores the world of endurance cycling and the challenging 2,745-mile race across the Continental Divide from Banff, Canada to the Mexican border. This film follows the journey of a small group of cyclists as they endure a grueling trek through some of the most beautiful and rugged terrain in North America. This is one of my favorite documentaries about cycling. I can watch numerous times and it is just as interesting as when I watched it the first time.

The documentary, directed by Hunter Weeks, takes us on a journey through the Rocky Mountains and the Great Divide Basin, where we see the riders struggling through snow-covered passes, navigating rocky trails, and battling against the elements. Through stunning cinematography and personal interviews with the riders, we get an intimate look at the physical and mental challenges they face on this epic journey.

One of the most striking aspects of the film is the diversity of the riders. From seasoned professionals to first-time cyclists, each rider brings their own unique story and motivation to the race. We see them battle exhaustion, injury, and self-doubt, but also find camaraderie and support among their fellow riders.

The documentary also highlights the incredible beauty and natural wonder of the Continental Divide. We see stunning landscapes and wildlife, and learn about the history and culture of the communities along the route. The riders encounter small towns and remote wilderness areas, and their journey becomes not just a physical challenge, but a spiritual and emotional one as well.

Throughout the film, we witness the transformative power of the journey, both for the riders and for the viewer. It is an inspiring testament to the human spirit, and a reminder of the incredible beauty and resilience of the natural world.

Overall, Ride the Divide is a powerful and beautifully filmed documentary that offers a glimpse into the world of endurance cycling and the incredible journey across the Continental Divide. It is a must-see for anyone interested in adventure, endurance sports, or simply the beauty of the natural world.
