Embarking on a cycling journey as a beginner can feel both exciting and a little intimidating. Whether you're looking to commute, explore nature, or get fit, starting off with the right knowledge can make all the difference. This guide covers the most important tips for new cyclists—so you can hit the road with confidence and ease. 1. Choose the Right Bike for Your Goals Not all bikes are created equal. Cycling is a fantastic activity with benefits for both physical and mental health. But whether you're riding for 5 miles or 50, one key to enjoying the experience is comfort —and that starts with what you wear. I took it to my local dealer, and just days later, I was rolling out on a brand-new Specialized Diverge. The best part? It didn’t cost me a dime. That Diverge would go on to carry me 962 miles across Texas during the summer heat of 2020 — without a single mechanical issue. I have put in over 20,000 miles on that bicycle and will probably double that mileage before thinking about getting a replacement. While I still prefer the fe...
